Loudoun Road Runners Scholarship Application

The Loudoun Road Runners Club aims to promote running as a lifelong endeavor for athletes of all ages and abilities. This scholarship is intended to support the next generation of running leaders who can help us meet those goals. We will award one $1,000.00 scholarship to a high school senior in Loudoun County, Virginia who will be enrolled in a post-secondary school (college, university, or trade school) by January 1, 2026.
Please submit the following materials using this form by Sunday, May 18, 2025, 11:59pm. We will not consider application materials received after that deadline.
The judging committee, composed of current Loudoun Road Runners members, who will evaluate applications based on:

The completeness and clarity of your application materials.
Your passion for, and commitment to, running.
Your drive for excellence.
Your leadership attributes, including respect for others and generosity of spirit.

This scholarship is not open to family members of scholarship judges, including the Loudoun Road Runners Board of Directors. All other Loudoun Road Runners family members may apply.

We will contact scholarship winners by Friday, June 6, 2025.
Scholarship checks will be payable to and be mailed to your post-secondary school on your behalf. Checks will not be payable directly to you.

Request a letter of recommendation from a leader in your life (teacher, coach, supervisor, etc) Instruct your letter writer to e-mail the letter directly to [email protected], with "letter of reference" and your name in the email subject.

We must receive Letter of Recommendation by the application deadline.

Write an essay to address ONE of the following four essay topics:

What has running taught you about yourself, your family, or your community?
What are your long-term running goals, and what drives you to achieve them?
Who are your running heroes, and why?
How has running helped you become a better leader?

Include your name at the top.
Be sure to indicate the topic you’ve chosen, even if you write your own additional title.
Be between 500 and 1,000 words.
Be double-spaced, in 12-point font.
Be in English and reasonably free of spelling and grammatical errors.
