Santa's Big Butt Half-Marathon

This note arrived from Karsten Brown of the Shenandoah Valley Runners:

The second race in the Shenandoah Valley Runners' Winter Series, the
Jingle Bell 5K, HAD been scheduled to take place tomorrow-- Saturday
19 December-- at Blandy Experimental Farm & State Arboretum near
Boyce, Virginia. But due to the big snowstorm, the SVR is postponing
the Jingle Bell 5K until NEXT Saturday-- the 26th. It'll still be at
Blandy, and it'll still start at 9:30. Contact r.d. Duane Williamson
at duanegwilliamson@comcast.net if you have any questions or if you
want to volunteer next Saturday.

So that means that the Jingle Bell 5K will now be held on the day before
the new race I'm about to tell you about! I tried to pick a weekend
without a scheduled Winter Series race, but, well, you can't predict the
weather. So do go and run Jingle Bell next Saturday, everybody-- don't
skip it on account of my dumb race.

Okay, so-- The Santa's Big Butt Half-Marathon & 13.5K! It will take
place on Sunday 27 December at Bowling Green Country Club North near
Front Royal, with an 8:30 AM start time. As the race name plainly
suggests, there will be a half-marathon (13.109 mile) race, and for
those who prefer slightly shorter (and/or odd) distances, there will
also be a 13.5K (8.389 mile) race. The event will be VERY low-key, with
no fee-- that's right, it's FREE!-- but there will also be no awards, no
t-shirts, no big post-race spread, no finisher's medals, no space
blankets, no course marshals, and maybe not even volunteers at a couple
of the water stops. I'm guaranteeing little more than marked & measured
courses on scenic low-traffic rural roads, me with a stopwatch, and my
usual terrible organizational skills. So this definitely isn't for
everybody. But if you're still interested after reading the above,
please head to...

...for complete details about the event. And if you think you'll be
taking part, please follow the RSVP instructions on that page so that
I'll know how many runners to expect.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED: We can always use a few more volunteers to help with
the water stops and the finish line. Let me know if you'd like to help
on the 27th.
