Leesburg to Purcellville & Back (up to 25 mi.)
Note: Like most of the long run routes, this one involves some road running, so remember that single-file, facing traffic is safest when vehicles are around. (Also, cars have the right of way according to the Law of Gross Tonnage, so plot your course accordingly.)
Directions to the Start
This run normally starts from Market Station in Leesburg at the corner of Loudoun and Harrison Streets.
Directions for the Run
These directions are the simplest of all the long runs.
- Exit the parking lot at Market Station and head south on Harrison St. to the W&OD
- Make a right onto the W&OD
- Follow the W&OD to the parking lot on the corner of Hatcher Ave. in Purcellville
- Turn around and come back.
Alternative Directions
Digges Valley Variation: You can spice up this run by adding Thomas Mill Rd. either on the way out or on the way back. The directions will look familiar:
- Leave Market Station and head south on Harrison St.
- Right on Catoctin Cir.
- Left on King St. (Bus. 15)
- Right on Wirth St.
- Right on Davis Ave.
- Left on Dry Mill Rd.
- Left on Thomas Mill Rd.
- Right on Canby Rd.
- Left on Digges Valley Rd.
- Right on Harmony Church Rd. (704)
- Right E. Colonial Hwy. (Bus. 7)
- Left on Hamilton Station Rd. (704)
- Left onto W&OD westbound
- Turn around in Purcellville at the little parking lot on Hatcher St. If you run up the trail to the water fountain and back, you’ll have covered about 12 miles.

Canby Variation: This route will total about 25 miles. Everything is the same as the Digges Valley directions until the turn onto Canby Rd. The rest of the course is as follows:
- Don’t turn onto Digges Valley; Stay on Canby Rd. and follow it to E. Colonial Hwy. (Bus. 7)
- Right on E. Colonial Hwy.
- Pick up the W&OD by turning left at Charles Town Pike (Rt. 9)
- Follow the W&OD westbound to Purcellville
- Etc.
