August 7th - Ellington Loop

After graduating from college with my wonderful new bachelors degree in Philosophy, I did what I imagine all Philosophy majors do ... got a job working construction. When you're trying to fit in with all the tough bricklayers and carpenters you don't really care to admit to having gone to college, let alone having a degree in Philosophy. The only thing worse may be admitting a degree in English Literature which implies poems and trust me you don't want that stigma around construction workers. One day however it got out that I had gone off for four years and gotten this 'philosophy' degree, and now here I was mixing morter with the guy who hadn't graduated high school. Looking at me with a mixture of disgust and confusion my fellow laborer said to me ..... Philosophy.... that's like smart sayins and stuff right? My professor of Linguistic Philosophy would have been proud to hear me reply..... Right! SO.. I Google'd up some smart sayins for your enlightenment and to provide fodder for conversation on your next long run.
From the great Duke Ellington - 'Grey skys are just clouds passing over'.
For you literary types from Wallace Stevens - 'A poet looks at the world the way a man looks at a woman'
To which all of us construction workers say - Huh?
And last but not least , the King, Elvis said - 'Man I really like Vegas'.
And so now that I've established my flimsy connection between Saturday and the Duke I can say that the long run this weekend will be the Ellington Loop from Rust Library. Whew!
So meet at Rust Library Saturday at 7 am
