July 17 Mule Run / Vermont 100 Updates
Beginning at 7 pm this Saturday, seven runners will attempt the 2010 running of the Mules and 8 others will run select portions of the course in between eating and drinking and generally ignoring the other 7 runners. On Saturday morning Diane will be preparing for her 4 am start of the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Race. SInce bib numbers are awarded based upon expected finish position, Diane has been given bib number 3.
Some FAQs about the Vermont 100 from the website:

A - Yes, Indeed!
Q - What is the total vertical for the 100 Mile?
A - Approximately 14,000 feet
Q - How fast will the winners run the race
A - The men in about 16 hours, the women in about 18

A - I think so ..
I'll post updates on Diane's progress here when I can and for as long as her crew is sober enough to send a text message. I anticipate that'll be about 10 am but check here anyway just in case.

Final Report
Submitted by Tom on Sun, 2010-07-18 10:01.No one runs a 100 mile race without encountering some unexpected challenge or obstacle. Sometimes it's more than can be overcome. Diane was running a stellar race on a tough course and after 80+ (have to verify that) miles she missed a poorly marked turn which added 10 miles to her race. Between what were now tight cut off times, an obvious huge disapointment, and an unsympathetic race official, her race ended there around 1 AM after 19 hours of effort.
If Ihave some of the times and distances incorrect Diane can correct them when she returns. The one fact I'm certain of is that she ran an outstanding race. Congrats Diane!

11:00 AM Vermont
Submitted by Long Run List on Sat, 2010-07-17 10:04.Word from the race is that it's HOT. Really ..... in mid-July? Diane passed the 50K mark at 6 1/2 hours. That's a very respectable 50K time. We're told she's feeling good. No word yet on the crew's mental state.
